On April 14, 2026, the Bratislava University of Economics and Business (EUBA) organised the 19th edition of its model conference. This year's edition focused on water, increasingly recognised as a critical global issue, and on achieving SDG6.
The Model UN plenary was under the flagship of the Water4All partnership and with the support of the United Nations Office in Vienna; the theme was: Water as a Global Challenge: Connecting Education and Research.
A flagship educational initiative offering a unique approach to teaching diplomacy. This plenary session was the last step of a project running during the academic year and simulated the United Nations General Assembly.
A large audience for a student-led project
The event gathered 384 guests, coming from different backgrounds: embassies, public sector, NGOs, private sector, university teachers, students (university and secondary grammar schools).
This event is entirely organised by students. “Our decisions are not based on fictional scenarios—they reflect real geopolitics and the economic realities of individual countries,” explained student coordinator Naďa Esterková.
It also allows students to develop practical skills such as negotiation, to build professional networks, and better understand international relations. It raises their awareness of global challenges that are affecting our society.
Water, a growing issue
This year’s conference focused on the effective management of water resources, one of the most pressing global challenges today. The topic reflects not only the impacts of climate change but also the growing importance of water in geopolitical relations.
EUBA is also actively engaged in this field through international research collaboration and with the Water4All partnership.
“We are part of the Water4All project, which brings together dozens of partners from around the world, and we aim to reflect this topic in both our research and teaching activities,” Kristína Baculáková added
